October 25, 2011 – The 2011 Wine Down Main Street, benefiting Williamson Co. Boys & Girls Clubs, will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. For the past 11 years, the Lipman companies have supported this extraordinary wine tasting which is sponsored by the Downtown Franklin Merchants.
Each year, event coordinators and the beverage consultant team at Lipman strive to elevate opportunities for wine and spirit aficionados to taste new and exciting products in a unique atmosphere. Here’s a sneak peek at some of this year’s enticing features:
New to You:
- Wines that are new to the Middle TN market including Bellaterra Ranch, entwine, Jaqk Cellars and Terra Fossil
- Bellaterra Ranch and Winery will pour wines in FM Allen. They are a Franklin-based and owned boutique wine and cigar business. Bellaterra wines are composed of fruit from California, Washington State, and Oregon with a winery based in Sonoma.
- Bella Terra Nicaraguan Cigars, made with tobaccos from Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, and Honduras, will be among the featured products in the Lipman Cigar booth.
- Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey… as sweet and sassy as it sounds!
- Three new participating shops: Johnnie Q, Its Vintage Baby and Boutique MMM.
- New food vendors: JJ’S Wine Bar, Enchanted Events and Catering, Mack and Kate’s Cafe, Papa Boudreaux’s Cajun Cafe, Pink Sugar Confectioners, Sweets Ndulgence and Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe.
- More than 400 women are expected to gather to simultaneously unscrew bottles of New Zealand’s Lonely Cow Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, an award-winning wine in the Lipman portfolio. Recently honored with a Silver Medal (89 points) at the Beverage Tasting Institute’s World Wine Championships, Lonely Cow has been pleasing palates and pocketbooks since entering the Middle Tennessee market three years ago. Following a celebratory toast with Lonely Cow Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, the opened bottles of the official “record-setting wine” will be distributed and poured throughout the festival. The event is hosted by the Saucy Sisters. For more information visit: winedownmainstreet.com/wine-down-main-street-teams-up-with-saucy-sisters
Insight from the Experts:
Aldo Morales, Lipman Brothers Portfolio Manager, discusses wine trends and what to expect at WDMS 2011:
Q: Has the economy played a factor in what people buy in wines?
A: Consumers have become savvier in their wine purchases. They are more educated about wine regions and varietals. If they decide to buy a wine over $30 they will do their research before hand. They want to know they will be happy with their choice. Premium wine sales are still on the rise but not as fast as in the past. For customers hosting parties, we’ve seen wine buyers mix a case for $20 per bottle as opposed to $35. Wines at many various price points will be available at WDMS this year.
Q: What are some recent trends in popular wines lately?
A: An increase in sales for imported wines. South America is a huge category. Five years ago many people had not tasted a Malbec and now we are drinking region specific Malbec and even Torrontes. We are open to more regions and choices. Sustainable wines have become big, with consumers demanding wines that practice “earth friendly” farming, whether that’s organics/biodynamics, etc.
